Herman Jones LLP Has Filed a Class Action Lawsuit on behalf of Persons Who Have Been Harmed by AT&T’s Latest Data Breach
On July 16, 2024, Herman Jones LLP (www.hermanjones.com) filed a class action lawsuit in the United States District Court of New Jersey, styled Schulte v. AT&T, Inc. and AT&T Mobility LLC (collectively, “AT&T”), No. 3:24-cv-07818 (the “Lawsuit”), on behalf of all individuals who had sensitive personal information compromised in the data breach AT&T announced on July 12, 2024 (the “Data Breach”).
Customer data was illegally downloaded by a cybercriminal from AT&T’s workspace on a third-party cloud platform. The stolen data includes files containing AT&T records of calls and texts from May 1, 2022 through October 31, 2022 and on January 2, 2023 belonging to nearly all of AT&T’s cellular and mobile virtual network customers, plus the records of parties with whom those customers had calls and texts. Data revealing telephone numbers, the duration of calls, the number of texts sent and, in some cases, the cellular towers related to communications made was stolen. Publicly available tools can enable criminals to use this information to obtain further personal data.
The Lawsuit charges AT&T with, among other things: failing to use adequate safeguards that would have detected and prevented the Data Breach and failing to notify victims of the breach in a timely manner.
